Ed,

Many notebooks don't have hard drives fast enough to support firewire
capture.... so check it out a bit before investing any money.

My Compaq Presario 2190US was purchased in Jan of this year. It has a 40gb hard drive. I assume (you know what that means) that it is capable of the transfer rate, and with 19gb free space has enough space to migrate the files. My only problem at this point is where to find a PCMCIA card and a IEEE cable to make the connection.
