I used the windows media codec to save 1 1/2 hours of home
video footage and it compressed great (about 1 GB). I'm
pleased with the quality, but when I bring it into SONIC
MYDVD to burn it it says there isn't enough room. I'm
using Windows XP Professional and the burned and
compression worked great but how do I fit it onto a DVD?
I've tried tons of different compressions including
Microsoft MPEG4 Codec V.2 and the windows media codec
seemed to give better results. If Sonic is reconverting
it back into MPEG2 format that I don't get what good these
better compression methods are if when you burn them you
lose it? If anybody understands this please help. Thanks.

A standard movie DVD requires MPEG-2 video, so that's
why MyDVD has to re-encode it. Unless you're using the
deluxe version of MyDVD, which includes AC3 audio
compression, you will only be able to fit approximately
1 hour of video on a DVD.

And you are correct. It makes no sense at all to
re-compress the video prior to importing into MyDVD.
You'll get the best results if you leave it in DV-AVI
format.
