But would you not expect a Sony digital 8 to play video 8 tapes recorded on
a Sony camcorder?
My source camcorder is a Sony CCD-F500E (video8) and I was thinking of
possibly purchasing a Sony DCR-TRV460 (digital8 with Hi8 and Video8
playback)
I would be interested if anyone has used the later for playing back video8
tapes.
Regards,
Paul

You would expect that a D8 would play back 8/Hi8 and, in the beginning, that
was the case. Now it's buyer beware. Over that last few years, Sony has
(arbitrarily & without warning, it seems) dropped the ability to do this on
low-end models. Exactly the way that low-end miniDV Camcorders no longer
offer pass-through.

All current Sonys with DV-in provide analogue pass-through
..
And obviously without DV-in you cannot have analogue pass-through.

Paul,
I have a TRV-460. I've used to it import video from my
old 8mm tapes taken with my Samsung analog camcorder. So
yes, it does work. Haven't tried it as a pass through
device (for VCR import) but it does have the capability.
As for software for DVD burning, I use MM2 and Sonic
MyDVD (version 4.5 came with my burner).
