I'd like to really clean out my registry. As you might
know win becomes unstable and slow if the reg gets filled
with junk entries (old stuff which is of no use anymore).
I'd like to do the same with the dll's in the win folder
and it's subdir's (system32!).

Any suggestions?

I'm already using regcleaner, it removes a lot but I still
think there's a lot more junk in there

Hi

My suggestion? Leave it alone, you will never know if what you remove is needed
later on. Win2k/WinXP is much better than Win9x to keep it's "speed" even if
the registry has a lot of unnecessary things in it.

Having seen the results of inexperienced people using automated
registry "cleaners," I can only advise to you to avoid them all.

The only thing needed to safely clean your registry is knowledge
and Regedit.exe. If you lack the knowledge and experience to maintain
your registry by yourself, you also lack the knowledge and experience
to safely configure and use any automated registry cleaner, no matter
how safe they claim to be.

I always use Regedit.exe. I trust my own experience and judgment
far more than I would any automated registry cleaner.

That's very well put IMO, although I'd state it a bit differently.
If you cannot figure out which registry entries are unnecessary,
there's no way an automated cleaner is going to be any better,
and is likely to be much, much worse. I wish I had a dollar for
every system I've seen with subtle problems that were caused
by registry cleaners.

thank you for your reactions. I can assure you that I have
the knowledge needed to clean the reg. and I have never
had any problems caused by regcleaner.
