After uninstalling pcanywhere 10 on win2k system, the
symantec registry key can't be deleted or edited,
stopping the reinstall of pcanywhere with a can't write
to registry. Any help will be appreciated greatly.

Check the symantec site for a registry removal tool for your product.

I checked, and the problem is that I can't delete or edit the last key in the
registry.
All the other symantec entries were either taken out by the uninstall
program or deleted by me, except the software entry symantec that also
contains the sub entries for pcanywhere and the host. I tried to replace the
registry with an edited version with the minus sign before the key but the
same result was that the registry could not be written over so the restore
failed.

Have you tried a RegEdt32 on the key? Use large gun with permissions.
