I need help.
I use my laptop(Dell, Windows 2000) to get connected to work through
VPN and the logon screen always showed Login, Password, Domain(which
is the domain at Work)
Now, I tried to share some files in that laptop at home and since I
weren't able to do it from another comouter, I changed the domain to
workgroup "HOME".
And the trouble then started...
I rebooted the laptop , and then could not find the Domain box in the
login screen. All it showed me was Login, Password and a small box
"Login using Dial Up Networking"
I tried both ways of using Dialup(VPN) and not using it but still it
would not let me login. I have many important files stored in that
laptop.
Please help me and let me know how I would proceed. I am relatively new
at troubleshooting computer stuff.
Thanks a lot in advance

This was your domain profile. All domain passwords and accounts are
associated with this profile.

This action created a new profile that has nothing to do with your domain
profile. All passwords and accounts that worked with your domain profile
will not work with this new profile. You need to know the administrator
account for the local computer to access it now since the domain accounts
will not work because you removed it from the domain.
If this is your personal laptop do you know the local administrator account
and password? Probably the same account used to install the system.
If not See:
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/
for tools to reset the administrator password. Once you can log in as
administrator you can add the computer back to the domain to get access to
your files.

Danny, Thank you for responding and the explanation helped me
understand what you said
I am not a techie guy and that site seems to be too technical and not
relatively straight for me to understand.
I don't know the administrator password for this laptop because it is
an old one and I have been using it to save important files and other
analytical use.
I would like to know if there is anyway, I can get the laptop to Work
and then join the domain myself (kind of getting back to the 'domain
profile' that you mentioned)
Please let me know.
Thanks
Jason

In order to access the domain profile you need to rejoin the computer to the
domain.
In order to rejoin the computer to the domain you need the administrator
password for the local computer.
To get the local admin password you have to remember it or hack it.
See:
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/
Go to the bottom of the page and view :Bootdisk Instructions & Image
download.
Maybe the admin of your work domain will help?

Danny,
Is adminstrator account and me being part of administrator group
different?

AS far as this issue is concerned you would need to have a local account
that is in the local administrator group of this computer.
