I am unclear about what Restore from Backup does. Because of problems I've
been having with e-mail, I backed up the C: drive and did a clean install of
Win2k, including formatting C:. The installation went well and my e-mail and
IE problems were resolved. I updated Win2k to SP4 and installed a couple of
apps from CDs. Previously, when restoring the System State, I recieved a
warning that this restore would replace the the current files with the
backup.
When I tried to restore My Documents from the backup, nothing restored, even
after a reboot. The OS install had created My Documents containing just the
folder My Pictures. The restore option "do not replace a file if it already
exists "was chosen.
I found nothing helpful in the Microsoft Knowledge Base, although I may have
missed it. Redoing the restore, with the option "replace all files " was
just as unsucessful. Should I restore the System State before selectively
restoring from the backup ?
What should my strategy be to restore the My Documents folder, even if I
have to go back to the format/install steps?
