Hi David,

Sounds like you're going to need to reinstall Pinball...

To add/remove Windows XP Games: Click START / Control Panel /
Add or Remove Programs / Add Remove Windows Components /
Accessories and Utilities / [Details...] / Games / [Details...] / then check
(or uncheck and then recheck the game) / Click [OK] 3 times to finish.

Pinball is not on that list by default. You may need to use these steps first:

1. Choose Start / Run / Copy+Paste the next line into the RUN box and press [ENTER]:
notepad %SystemRoot%\Inf\Sysoc.inf

2. Scroll down to the line that reads: Pinball=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,pinball.inf,HIDE,7
and delete the word HIDE from the line so it now reads: Pinball=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,pinball.inf,,7

3. Click File / Exit and choose YES to save the changes you made to the file.

4. Click Start / Settings / Control Panel / Add-Remove Programs and follow the
instructions posted in the first paragraph to reinstall Pinball now that it's on the list.

Hi David,

Since that problem just started happening recently, try a System Restore.

How to use Windows XP System Restore:

Hi David,

You shouldn't be manually deleting any of the Windows folders.
Definately not a recommended procedure for any situation. :-)

I needee to delete several folders so the printer software would load
properly. My PC had two "users" and an owner. I found numerous duplicate
files and folders. This pinball problem may have been there for a while.
Unknown exactly when it started.

I do have the OS discs in addtionion to the os program in the PC. I did try
system restore as far back as possible, but no luck. I've been looking at the
OS discs to find the files I need.

Hi David,

Search the OS Disks (include compressed files and folders)
for the missing files: wavemix.* and pinall. * and extract them
to your Pinball directory.

Hi David,

Since you deleted several folder, it's possible that those folders contain
the files which are causing your two issues (pinball not installed, and the
error you get when you try to open the Add-Remove Programs applet.
See if restoring those folders you deleted helps resolve those issues.

I've got the necessary files, I think. Got them fromanother xp PC. The game
is working fine, but how do I get the Windows XP setup to recgonize the
pinball.inf file? That seems to be the only problem. In Add and remove
programs, I click on the Add/Remove Windows compenets icon. It can' open the
pinball.inf file. Any thoughts?

You don't do anything with that file. Right-click the Desktop on an empty
space, select New then Shortcut. Now Browse to the C:\Program Files\Windows
NT\Pinball folder and select the pinball.exe file as the source. This will
create a direct link to the Pinball file, and you can rename it to anything
you'd like on the Desktop.

That gives me a link to the game, sure. But my problem is accessing the
Windows components in the "Add/Remove" programs function. (Windows set up) I
click on Add/Remove Windows components and the meesage reads: Unable to open
pinball.inf. Can't access the Windows components after that. The pinball.inf
file is there. Why doesn't my PC see it? I've tried installing the .inf
several times, thinking the PC would pick it up, but no luck.

Pinball has never been included in the Games section there, only Freecell,
Hearts, Internet Games, Minesweeper, Solitaire and Spider Solitaire. It has
always been a separate entity, standing by itself.
