Is there a freeware to convert a video in mpg/avi to wmv or other formats?
And also how can I extract a particular portion of a long video and save it
separately?

The following article offers info about converting MPEG files:
Movie Maker 2 - Importing MPEG Files
http://www.papajohn.org/MM2-Importing-Video-MPEG2.html
If you can import the file into Movie Maker
it has an option to split the file. Then you just
delete the unwanted portion and resave the
remainder as a new file.
And BTW...the cutting and deleting has no
effect on the original file.

Download WM encoder 9 series + its utilities,in the encoder select convert
audio/video....

WM encoder 9 series cannot convert rm files to other formats...
Anyone has any advice or suggestions?
