I made a movie that is about 25 minutes long. Mostly individual pictures.
It plays back great in the working file, but when I make it a movie it will
stop some time during the playback on a picture. The audio continues. What
causes this? Do I have too many transitions/effects?

If you have placed all the pictures and transitions into the
timeline/storyboard and are just trying to play the project before creating
the final DVD, it may be that all the
effects/transitions require a lot of rendering and the display gets behind.
Possibly try
creating an avi file and save it to the hard drive first will complete all
the processing, then allow you to view the avi file in media player or
whatever viewer you use.

For What It's Worth a simple suggestion from a simple biped

Ok, how do I create an AVI file? After I create the AVI file can I make the
movie? (WMV file?)

When you create your movie, choose save to hard disk. In the choices to save
the file, it will ask what type of file, avi, or wmv.

You can do either one and it should process and compile (render) all the
transitions and effects into the file at once. That way when you just select
the file to play it in media player or by adding it to the movie maker video
collections as a new clip, and playing it in the preview monitor, it shouldn't
have to do a lot of rendering (processing effects and transitions in the
background).

Just to confirm it, you could also save your current project as a new name,
duplicating it. Then in the new copy, take out all the transitions and
effects, then try playing the file. If it doesn't hang up as you described,
it should confirm the problem. Then just begin adding an effect or transition
or two and replay until it hangs up again. Then you will have an idea of how
much you PC will handle, and know to do your projects in smaller pieces
(clips) and combine those into your final version.

I will try that next. I changed all transitions to fade. Then I kept saving
the file as a movie over and over again. It finally "took". It would be a
lot easier to do it your way tho.
