Re-post:

My brother had to install WinXp_sp2 from scratch, on both a laptop and a
desktop. Both works, except for sharing drives between systems.
Both are in the same workgroup, both allows have "MS File and Printer
sharing" activated, both can get to "Connect to network drive", browse to
the other machine and choose the shared disks, get a driver for them etc....
But neither machine can use the other disk, there always comes a small
window with:

Window caption: "Windows XP installer" (????)
Window text: "Install and configure system components in
ControlPanel"

This with Sygate enabled or disabled

What components???

Also, on the Fujitsu-Siemens laptop (Amilo 1630) the Odyssey driver for WLAN
802.11b/g can't get an address from the Belkin router/AP (configured as AP)
without him shutting down Sygate firewall. When IP retrieved, the firewall
can be activated again....
(Advanced rule in Sygate: IP 10.0.0.0 - 10.0.0.255, 0.0.0.0 allowed all
traffic, network neighborhood: file and printer sharing allowed)

TIA

I am inclined to think this is a firewall issue. Does it work when all
firewalls are turned off? Third party and the built in windows firewall?

I think you should set the IP adresses manually.

And what for? It used to work, DHCP enabled from the router (A-Link RR44C,
routed mode)

(And "get a driver for them etc" should be "get a drive letter..")

Well, i had similiar problem - and setting it manually solved it. I had one
server with winXP and laptop with Win98. I installed the network from CD and
everything function (internet, games) except for sharing files on disks. So I
set the ip adresses manually and it worked.
