inserted a 256mb pc 133 sdram 133mhz into a pavillion 8652c it now no
longer works even when i switch back to the old memory card.
A friend of mine has the computer and I recomended the memory but he
installed it. He said the computer would not work so he reinstalled the
old ram but now when he boots it will only partially boot., The Windows
XP boot screen will show with the progress bar for a while and then it
reboots again over and over.
I hear that the pavillion 8652c can only use 128 mb Dimms that run on
100mhz would this improper memory the 256mb Dimm that runs on 133mhz
hurt the computer.

Please help.

Your PC cannot support 256mb chips of any speed.... only 128mb and at PC100.
http://configurator.oempcworld.com/result.asp?mn=Pavilion+8652C&modelid=13882

I have purchased memory in the past for ancient PCs from the link I included
but also for current systems from the more well known retailers like
www.kingston.com and www.crucial.com.... even good makes from
www.newegg.com. You may find it difficult to get PC100 Simms at PC stores,
it is long discontinued.

I dont think installing the wrong memory can "hurt" the computer. Are you
certain that the old memory was re-inserted correctly? I assume you powered
the computer OFF while doing the memory modifications? I would think most
likely the old working memory is just not seated firmly into the slot (if
there are clips, make sure they are clipping correctly. Make sure the
notch(s) in the memory card line up with the little plastic guides in the
slot etc etc.

PC100 SDRAM can usually be found in most computer shops that are NOT big
chains (neighbourhood PC parts stores) - but sometimes they are even more
expensive than current memory (supply/demand yada yada)

Best of luck

PS: all else fails, enlist a knowledgable friend or friend of a friend etc.
