I currently have an NT 4.0 BDC in a Windows 2003 domain (@ 2003 interim
functional level). I've run into a problem with the upgrade process
from NT to 2003 on this server (process just hangs at a certain point).
I was thinking of trying to upgrade the BDC to 2000 and then to 2003
to see if that would work. Since I'm at a 2003 interim domain
functional level, I believe I cannot have any 2000 DC's in the domain.
Could I still upgrade the PDC to 2000 and downgrade it to a member
server? I don't necessarily need it to function as a BDC after the
upgrade. If that is possible, what would be the ramifications
regarding shares (files & printers) and NTFS permissions if any.

If the above scenario is not possible, how about this one - take the NT
4.0 BDC offline; attempt the 2000 upgrade; if that works, upgrade to
2003; and then place it back online if that works?
