I have 2 issues which I have been all over this and Microsofts website
trying to resolve. The first error message is the VDD message so I
went into the registy as all the instructions indicate. However I do
not get the same menu. I deleted the symantec file, but the
instructions state to click edit and get add value. I do not get an
add value option. I can use new and manually input the information
stated, but it does not seem to work as I still get the same error
message. Anyone have any idea what I am talking about?

Second problem is the error for system file not suitable for running ms
dos and windows. Again I tried to follow the microsoft instructions to
expand my files. I put the cd in and went into cmd but when cmd
starts, I am on C:\documents and settings\my name
When I type in the command line I get a couple lines indicating it is
going into the expand and then it gives me an error saying it can't
open input file d:\i386\config.nt_%
I'm not sure if I am doing something wrong here or if there is yet
another problem that is causing this. Any help again would be greatly
appreciated!

The article is pretty straight-forward. You'll need to use regedt32.exe.
regedit.exe cannot create Reg_Multi_Sz strings. If you need to recreate the
VirtualDeviceDrivers key; highlight the key (in the left-hand pane), then
Edit|Delete Then (in the left-hand pane) position the cursor on the
"Control" key, (so you'll be creating directly under "Control") then
Edit|Add Key, then for the "Key Name:"
VirtualDeviceDrivers
You can leave the "Class:" blank Then proceed with steps four through seven.

Make sure your doing this logged on as local administrator.

I am wondering if it would make a difference how I access the editor.
I am just typing in regedit after Start - Run. I'm not sure what you
are talking about with the regedt32.exe. However I am pretty sure I
get to the same place and as I mentioned, I have tried all the above
which are pretty straight forward, including re-creating the key and I
keep getting the same message, except it changed from the "failed"
message to the "format is invalid." Could you expand on a couple
things. First, how do I make sure I am logged in as administrator, and
second how do I copy those files as a second alternative?
By the way, any idea on the other error message and why my dos commands
don't seem to be working? Thanks again,

** Not really since you posted condensed and or modified versions. Not to be
picky but we need the exact text in most cases. Also check Event Viewer for
clues.

Apparently that did make a difference. As for the second issue, I'm
not sure what Event Viewer is. The exact error message is
C:\winnt\system32\autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for
running MS-Dos and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose close to
terminate application.
This is exactly like the ones listed on the Microsoft site so I
followed the directions to expand the config, autoexec, and command
files. I put my cd in. I went start-run-cmd to get to the dos
command. My command line then stated
C:\Documents and Settings\Ted Fiks>
so here I input the exact line to expand config
expand D:\i386\config.nt_ %systemroot%\system32\config.nt
then I get 2 lines stating the file expansion utility all rights
reserved, and the next line says: Can't open input file:
d:\i386\config.nt_.

not sure if you are still around or not, but I was gone for a couple
days. My cd rom is drive d, and I can find the auyoexec and config
files in the repair directory, but I'm noy sure where I should be
copying them too.?? thanks,
