View Full Version : Geneuide.sys
Wayne 11-27-2006, 08:35 PM I am trying to help a neighbor install an ImageMate Scandisk in windows 2000.
Upon attaching the hardware and after turning on the computer it comes up as
finding new hardware. After identifying the hardware it says, please wait.
After a few minutes another popup comes up saying to, Please insert the
compact disk labeled as "USB storage driver Disk" into your CD Rom and click
OK. However, he does not have a USB storage driver disk". It then says a file
by the name of geneuide.sys on the "USB Storage Driver Disk" is needed. Where
can he get a "USB Storage Driver Disk" with that particular file. I
downloaded a file by that name from one of the websites, however, I am a
little hesitant in installing it until I check and making sure that this file
is the same as what the computer is asking for. Thanks for any help.

Assuming this is a usb scanner the installation instructions usually specify
that the software on the provided cd is installed prior to connecting the
scanner.
Re read the instructions with the scanner

Wayne 11-27-2006, 09:45 PM DL, I am trying to install a USB imageMate Card Reader\writer from Sanddisk,
model SDDR-99 in windows 2000 for a digital camera. The drivers for this
hardware are supposed to be already installed in windows 2000. The only
drivers they have to download from their website is for windows 98 SE. Sorry
for the misunderstanding.

I may be wrong but a google search showed 'geneuide.sys' as a win98 usb
driver

Wayne 11-28-2006, 12:49 AM It may be a 98 driver DL but the computer advised that it was looking for
that file for the installation. I called Sandisk but the two tech support
people I talked with was very hard to understand and I am just as confused
now as I was before calling them. One of them did say to try the reader on
another computer with XP or 2000 SP4 and see if it that works. If that works
then there is a problem with the windows 2000 SP4 operating system, if it did
not work, than it would be in the hardware itself. If is works I am to call
them back for further instructions. It almost acts like the driver for that
piece of hardware is not installed in this windows 2000 SP4. They do not have
the drivers for the windows 2000 SP4 computer on their website since it is
assumed to be already installed in the SP4 version of windows 2000 which is
already on the computer. Thanks

Wayne 11-28-2006, 01:19 PM DL, I did not try to update the motherboard. I am going to turn it back over
to my neighbor to finish figuring out what the problem is. He is gone alot
and I do not have access to the computer. At first I thought it was going to
be a simple matter but I can see that this is not going to be the case. I
e-mailed him last night and I told him to uninstall SP4 and then reinstall.
Since the drivers are in SP 4 it may just do the trick. What I think has
happened is he tried to use the 98 SE driver disk that came with the Sandisk
and it probably screwed up his windows 2000 SP 4 drivers for this hardware.
When I plugged the Sanddisk ImageMate cardreader/writer in the computer said
it had "found new hardware" but after several minutes it could not find the
drivers in windows 2000 and it was looking for the "USB Storage Driver Disk"
for the driver. It mentioned that it could not find the file "geneuide.sys".
I called Sandisk company techs but it was very difficult for me to understand
them. The only thing I got from them is to try to install this hardware on
another XP or windows 2000 with SP4 machine and it it worked it would
eliminate the hardware being faulty. If the hardware was working properly, I
was to call them back for futher instructions. I will give my neighbor all
the information from you and hopefully he will follow the correct procedures
and get it to working. If he gets it working I will post the results back. He
may just forget the whole thing and do without it. He just uses it to put
pictures into the computer. Thanks for all your help and hanging in there
with me.
