Just for posterity and google's database, I had the error 1717 while
using RAS and VPN today, message is "the interface is unknown". The
cause was my stupidity, I had disabled the 'Protected Storage' service
for no good reason. If I could somehow post this message yesterday I
would have saved myself a lot of time trying to figure this out.
