View Full Version : Giving users rights without admin on server

Hi,

I am running a Windows 2k server, which is domain
controller, in a mostly xp pro environment. there are
some users that need to be able to work on their computer
as if they were power users, but not gain any extra
access on the server as if they were admins.

I don't see a power users group on server, Schema Admin,
Enterprise Admin, and Domain admin, are the 3 most likely
suspects, I'm not really sure what Schema admin is, When
i researched it I got "And admin over the Schema" Which
was a duh response.

Can you tell me what group to make them an admin of
please.

Add their Domain AD accounts to the local Power Users Group on the XP boxes.
That is where they need more rights, not on the domain. You should also add
your Domain Admin Group to the local Admin Group as well (if not already).
And the Schema Admin is NOT the place to put them, that is for people who
administer your Exchange and other Domain Server Services.

Remove the kNOT to reply.
But it is best to share it with the group.
