View Full Version : EventID 4319
Can this error cause networking problems? Like not being able to reach servers even though they're up.
|
What are the details of that error?

This is a "duplicate name on network" error and can definitely cause networking problems. All the details were posted in another thread. I read all the articles and did all the stuff that was recommended but to no avail.
But all I really want to know is can error 4319 cause networking problems.

Thanks Danny,
I've been thru all this stuff already. Still haven't tracked it down yet.
Can this error cause networking problems? Like not being able to reach servers even though they're up.
The answer will dictate how high this issue will be escalated.

Hi Scott,
Can it cause every machine that is identified as having the same name to flake out. The reason is that it is happening to a couple of our web servers. They'll be fine but then if you try to ping or surf the sites - there's nothing but dead air. Then a couple of minutes later everything is fine as though nothing happened.
I know the servers that are suppose to causing the problem but the IP's are different as are the names.
Here's what I posted originally:
Desparately looking for help in fixing this duplicate name error. I've gone as far as I can go.
We have approx. 10 servers - all are running W2K, while one is NT4. We are not running WINS. We have a load balancer that has 2 VIP's and does NATing for our 192.168.11.x and 192.168.20.x network.
Can this error cause networking problems, whereby you can't even ping any server on the network even though all of the servers are up.

I can cause problems with any application that uses NetBIOS over TCP/IP; file sharing, browsing, WINS, etc. -------------------- [color=blue] > >All the details were posted in another thread. I've disabled netbios on the server reporting the problem and it seems to be fine.
I have posted all of the details of nbtstat.
I was probably caused by a user logging in with the same name. But why would this cause the problem

When a user logs on to a machine, NBT registers the username <03> record. If the user logs on to another machine with the same name, it can generate an error. This can usually be ignored. --------------------
