View Full Version : How to change reply message for password length

Juan Gil
We are going to be implementing a stronger password
policy. What I am looking for is when ever you try to set
a password incorrectly the reply message says by default
that the password mst be atleast 6 characters long, I
want to change it to a higher number like 8 or 9. Is
there a place that this can be done?

Juan,

This number is defined by whatever number you have set in the 'Minimum
Password Length' policy. This policy must be set at the Domain level in
Active Directory. Open AD Users & Computers and then right click on the
domain. Then click on the Properties. In the properties dialog box click on
the Group Policy tab. In there you should see the Defualt Domain Policy.
Edit the policy and nevigate to:

Computer Configuration>Windows Settings>Security Settings>Account
Policies>Password Policy> Minimum password length

Set this value for whatever you want the minimum to be.

Juan Gil
Hey chad if we change it to 7 or 8 instead of 6, it still
replies the 6 character message.

I have been searching and from what I have found and
heard. I guess this cannot be changed, which doesn't make
sense if you are trying to lock down your network. If I
do find something I will let you know.

Thanks
Juan
