View Full Version : Win98 connection to AD win 2k

Mike
Hi,

I need to connect a WIn98 workstation to my AD domain but
it seems that like WIndows NT4.0 that needs SP6a, WIndows
98 needs c Client extension to be installed on it to
connect to the WIn2k Server AD domain. I have been able
to fine SP6a for NT 4.0 but nothing for win98?? Can
someone please help me finding this Client extension if
there is any??

Regards,

Mike

Assuming everything is configured correctly (big assumption)...unless you've
increased the default security settings, Windows 98 should be able to
authenticate to an Active Directory domain out of the box. Can you give
details on the exact problem you are having?

In any event, the Active Directory client for 95/98 is on the Windows 2000
CD in the \clients\Win9x folder. The file is called Dsclient.exe.

Thanks for getting back to me. I have that file but it
diesn't istall and asks for a SP6a which isn't on the
system. I have downloaded SP6a but it doesn't install on
windows 98 and is for NT???

Everythinh is configured properly.

Is this the error you get?

"Setup cannot detect the Windows NT 4.0 with SP6a or higher operating system
which is required in order to install the Directory Service Client. The
installation will terminate."

Mike,

Well I'm going to make an educated guess and assume that is the error
message you are getting. There are two files with the name Dsclient.exe. One
Dsclient.exe is for NT 4.0 and the other Dsclient.exe is for Windows 95/98.
Make sure you are using the Dsclient.exe from the\clients\Win9x folder of
your Windows 2000 Server CD.
