View Full Version : Group Policies

I have been working with Windows 2000 Server as a domain
controller and am experiencing problems with Group
Policies. I created an OU called "Sales" and created a
user in the OU called Tom. I created a group policy for
the Sales OU that hides all icons on the desktop. When I
logon the domain controller as Tom the icons are hidden
as expected bit when I logon a client computer that has
joined the domain, the policy does not take effect.
Please help!

Possibly the policy has not propagated yet. Run gpresult while logged on as that user
on the domain computer to see if the policy is being applied from that OU to the user
and last time the policy was refreshed.

If that does not help Group Policy problems are often attributed to dns
misconfiguration or problems with the computer account in the AD domain. Domain
workstations must point ONLY to AD domain controllers that are running dns with a
copy of the AD zone for the domain. Running netdiag will tell if there are problems
with domain configuration by showing failed tests/warnings for dns, domain
membership/secure channel, or dclist. --- Steve
