I had to re-install windows 2000, now it will not retain
passwords when I use them and indicate I would like 2000
to retain the pass word. I had this problem previously and
was told there was a knowledge base article about this. I
used the article and the problem was corrected. I have
been unable to find the knowledge base article again now.

What password retention. Do you mean auto logon? If so see the link below and I
pasted the pertinent info as you do not want to modify the registry if possible. ---

1.. In Control Panel, double-click Users and Passwords.
2.. Click to clear the Users must enter a user name and password to use this
computer check box.

NOTE: This option does not appear on a system that is a member of a domain.
3.. Click the Advanced tab.
4.. Click to clear the Require users to press Ctrl-Alt-Del before logging on check
box.
