View Full Version : secure erase

I have a machine that I will be giving away, of course I want to wipe
all my data first. However all of the programs I have found only do a
wipe of files that are currently on the file system. I want to wipe all
unused hard drive sectors so that files I deleted last year or last week
or yesterday will also be wiped off the hard drive. Does anyone have a
suggestion for a program that will do this and still leave the OS intact?

There are several, some free and some have free trialware versions. I tried
East Tech Eraser [free trial period] and it seems to do a pretty good job
and I like that it can scrub slack file space and scramble deleted file
names [many don't]. It and others are available at the link below. UltraWipe
is free and has the ability to wipe ram and the page file before shutting
the computer down but does not scramble deleted file names and dates. ---
