View Full Version : Updates thru Firewall not working?

Carlton Whitmore
I've decided to close all ActiveX traffic except from the
following sites:
http://download.windowsupdate.com
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
https://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com

Even with these sites added I cannot do Windows updates
on my W2k Pro workstations. Am I missing a site?
Carlton.

Try adding Microsoft.com to the list to see if it helps. Otherwise see if your
firewall logs show why the traffic is being blocked. --- Steve

Carlton Whitmore
Steven,
I added microsoft.com without any luck. Here is the log
entry when I try to access the updates:

08/27/2004 15:57:22.112 ActiveX or Java archive access
denied 168.215.186.88, 1206, LAN 207.46.134.92, 80, WAN
Code: - 00.0F.1F.55.24.06 -
www.windowsupdate.com/v4/iuident.cab?0408272057

(This is on a Sonicwall firewall. The tech from Sonicwall
was worthless.)
Carlton.

Got it!
The only domain it needed was:
windowsupdate.com

Great. Thanks for reporting back. I guess tech support is not what it used to be
these days. --- Steve
